There are 3 important jewelry shows for the jewelry industry: the Miami Beach Antique Show, the Las Vegas Antique Jewelry Show, and the The Hong Kong Jewelry Show. These shows tell us where the prices of diamonds, and antique jewelry, is going for the upcoming year. One important aspect we look for (from the Hong Kong show) is which buyers are coming to the show? Will our friends from the Far East come, specifically China, India and Japan? What will they be buying? Will our friends from Europe, specifically Germany, England and Italy, come to this show? How about our friends from the Middle East? There is always a large contingency of American diamond dealers at this great show, but the major question is, "what diamonds will they be purchasing?" Here's the ditty on the Hong Kong show:

Who came to the Hong Kong Show

Our friends from the Far East came to the show, yet it seems that they aren't buying their signature diamonds, specifically colorless and near colorless diamonds with flawless and VVS clarities. Colorless diamonds (including D, E and F) with VVS and Flawless clarities are very soft today. We don't see a change in price and demand for these diamonds in the near future. Our friends from Europe just were not there in numbers. It seems that the recession is hitting Europe hard. Our friends from the Mid East were there, but with oil at an all time low, they were not buying colored diamonds, specifically blue and pink, like they used to. Fancy yellow diamonds are also a bit soft in the market. American dealers were there, looking for round and fancy shape, commercial, off size diamonds with GIA diamond reports of SI2 and I1 clarities.

Where Are Diamond Prices Going

As we've said, VVS and Flawless diamond prices are very soft. We don't see an end to this, until our friends from the Far East start to buy these type of diamonds again. Fancy shape diamonds, and round cut diamonds, in off sizes with I1 clarities, are very strong today. Prices of fancy colored diamonds, including blues and pinks, continue to stay very strong. The demand from China for these diamonds is very strong.

Antique Engagement Ring Prices

We are also seeing a rise in the price of antique engagement rings and vintage engagement rings . With the supply at the Hong Kong jewelry show very low, the demand was high. Dealers were searching for pristine antique rings, where the prices were very strong. We definitely see them staying strong for the foreseeable future.

Final Thoughts:

The Hong Kong show was a very successful show with dealers coming from all over the world. With the demand for antique rings rising every day, we think prices are going to stay strong.
