A slightly more square counterpart to the emerald cut, Asscher cut diamonds are extremely enchanting. Popular during the 1920s, their distinctive, geometric shape makes them a celebration of light. Our magnificent collection of vintage Asscher cut engagement rings is a testament to the everlasting beauty of these unique gemstones.

Defining Traits

The Asscher cut was introduced in 1902 by the Asscher Brothers of Holland’s Asscher Diamond Company. Here are important characteristics to take note of in this unique cut:

  • Distinctive Facets. Asscher cut diamonds have 72 step-cut facets, where three rows are located at the top and three rows are located near the bottom. This draws the eye into the center of the stone.
  • Spectacular Sparkle. Large step facets and a high crown allow light to be reflected around the entire stone in a veritable “hall of mirrors.” The result is a distinctive sparkle that is impossible to ignore.
  • Art Deco Influence. Asscher cut diamonds were popular during the 1920s. For this reason, most of the rings that feature Asscher cut stones are elegant antiques from the Art Deco Era.
  • Octagonal Shape. Asscher cut diamonds have cropped corners, meaning they are technically octagonal. These corners are often covered up in a standard four-prong setting, however, resulting in a stone that appears to only have four even sides.
