Victorian Engagement Rings

The Victorian era dates back to 1836-1901, when Queen Victoria ruled Great Britain. It is known that the romantic look of this jewelry was in large part due to the love she had for her family. Some of the designs of this period include birds, hearts and flowers. Opals became a favorite, as Queen Victoria loved them. Some other gemstones that were popular were garnets, amethysts and turquoise. These were set in yellow gold and silver, as platinum did not make its appearance until later in this era. Diamonds were also introduced during this time and became popular.
