Edwardian Engagement Rings

The Edwardian period dates back to 1901 when Queen Victoria's son, Edward, became king upon her death, and marked the end of the Victorian era. This lasted until approximately 1914. The Edwardian era brought a feminine delicate feel to jewelry with detailed filigree work and elegant lacy designs. Diamonds and pearls were most popular during this time, along with sapphires and rubies. Platinum became the metal of choice. The combination of diamonds and pearls with white metals was a common look during this time. The jewelers of this time enjoyed creating simple designs which showcased each gemstone's natural characteristics. Flowing designs such as wreaths, ribbons, flower garlands and scrolls were popular during this era.
